This was a very addictive story about a detective (Zack) who goes to investigate a homicide at the battered women's shelter where his estranged wife (Lindsay) works. Things escalate quickly after Lindsay receives a "gift" from the killer who is dubbed with the moniker, The Guardian. There are also a couple of sub-plots regarding an ambitious reporter and another about an abused woman who is an old friend that Lindsay takes in and tries to help. Consequently, both these women get their own stories with two of the detectives you'll meet in this book just in case you didn't know. One is just a short story in the "Silver Bells" anthology and the other is a full-length novel titled "Dead Ringer."

This book literally had me in such suspense that I never wanted to put it down. However, if you decide to read it please do so for the mystery aspect. The romance was not the best and I think most will find it lacking in that regard. I never really warmed up to the hero either since early on we learn of his infidelity. I also had too many unanswered questions regarding the other woman. As for Lindsay, I simply adored her and thought she was awesome! This was an exciting and thrilling read that had my heart beating double time in my chest. It wasn't even until 300 pages in that I figured out who the killer was. Overall it was a great mystery that grabbed my attention and never once let go!

I was disappointed with this book, it was drawn out & made it hard for me to finish. I hope the next book is better
This author truly knows how to keep turning the pages! I've read several of her books and have enjoyed them all.
Mary Burton never disappoints!! I loved every thing about this book.....the storyline was exciting and mysterious, and the characters were perfectly developed. I was kept guessing the whole time and by the time every thing was revealed, I was absolutely shocked and blown away!!
I took me a long time to finish this because of my hardwork-required occupation. But I turned each page with a deep curiosity. I recommend it to those who are looking for a title that can be defined as in the summary above.
I have become a big fan of Mary Burton books after reading my first one. Like her other books that I've read, this has suspense with just the right amount of romance mixed in. The romance part is largely about relationships with some hot sex thrown in, but it is tasteful. I think she is a wonderful writer and am gradually working my way through everything she has wrtitten.
Very good romantic thriller, it's a page turner all the way to the end. Zach and Lindsay are thrown back together by murders committed to supposedly help Lindsay. There are some side stories going on, they all seem to merge into a surprising conclusion.
I enjoyed the plot of this book, but there are so many errors that it is easy to get pulled out of the story. The publisher really should hire a proofreader to go through these books and polish them. Too many characters are sitting in "cubicals" and feeling "distain" (instead of disdain) for other people.
